Early Career
Abraham Kibiwott is a Kenyan track and field athlete who specializes in steeplechase and long-distance running. He made his international debut at the 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships, where he finished fifth in the 2000-meter steeplechase. In 2015, he won the gold medal at the African Junior Athletics Championships. That season, he also set a personal best of 8:22.10 minutes at the London Diamond League meeting.
Breakthrough Season
In 2016, Kibiwott continued to impress on the Diamond League circuit, starting with a personal best of 8:09.25 minutes in Doha. He finished third in Beijing behind Ezekiel Kemboi and won his first event at Athletissima in Lausanne. However, he failed to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics at the Kenyan trials.
International Success
At the 2016 African Athletics Championships, Kibiwott won his first international medal, a bronze, behind Ethiopians Chala Beyo and Tolosa Nurgi. In 2019, he finished seventh at the World Championships in Qatar. In 2021, he competed at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, finishing 10th in the steeplechase with a time of 8:19.41.
Recent Achievements
At the 2022 World Athletics Championships in the United States, Kibiwott finished fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 8:28.95. On August 22, 2023, he won a bronze medal in the steeplechase at the World Championships in Budapest with a time of 8:11.98 minutes.
