Biography of Moshe Czerniak
Early Life and CareerMoshe Czerniak, an Israeli and former Polish chess player, was born in Lomza, Poland. In 1911, he emigrated to the United States and lived there until 1924. After his return to Poland, he settled in Warsaw.
Tournament Success in Poland (1924-1930)
Czerniak made his tournament debut in 1924/25 in Warsaw, where he shared 3rd-5th place. In 1926, he tied for first place with Paulino Friedman in Warsaw. In the same year, he finished 8th-9th (with Menachem Oren) at the 1st Polish Championship in Warsaw. He continued his success in 1926/27 by placing 5th in a tournament in Warsaw and 8th in the 2nd Polish Championship in Lodz in 1927. In 1928, Czerniak triumphed at a tournament in Warsaw.
International Representation
Czerniak represented Poland on the reserve board at the 2nd Chess Olympiad in The Hague in 1928. The Polish team finished in 3rd place.
Team Success and Move to Palestine
Czerniak played for the Warsaw team that won the 1st Polish Team Championship in Chorzow in 1929. In the same year, he finished 2nd to Kremer in Warsaw. In 1930, he placed 8th in a tournament in Warsaw.
In 1935, Czerniak relocated to Palestine, where he achieved notable successes. He won two tournaments in Tel Aviv: the 2nd Maccabiah Games and the 1st Palestine Championship.
Later Career in Palestine
In 1936, Czerniak placed 2nd in the Tel Aviv Championship and shared 2nd-3rd place in the Palestine Championship, also held in Tel Aviv. His career in Palestine marked the end of his competitive chess playing.
