Early Life and Education

A prominent Soviet artilleryman, Abram Mordukhovich was born on September 5, 1922, in Smelaya, Ukraine. In 1933, his family relocated to Birobidzhan, where he completed secondary school and enrolled in the Vladivostok Polytechnic Institute to study shipbuilding.

Military Service

In November 1940, Mordukhovich was drafted into the Red Army. From September 1941 to January 1942, he fought on the Southern Front, participated in the Donbas-Rostov Defensive Operation, and witnessed the Battle of Kharkov in 1942, where he sustained severe injuries.

During the Battle of Stalingrad, Mordukhovich distinguished himself as a gun commander in the 903rd Artillery Regiment. On January 28, 1943, he destroyed enemy positions with direct fire, earning his first combat award, the Medal "For Courage."

As part of the 97th Guards Rifle Division, he played a pivotal role in the Kursk Battle from July to August 1943. He was awarded a second Medal "For Courage" for his actions during the Dnieper River crossing.

In January 1944, Mordukhovich earned the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, for repelling a counterattack during the battle for Kirovograd. He subsequently participated in the Uman-Botoshani and Lviv-Sandomierz operations.

On August 27, 1944, he single-handedly destroyed a "Ferdinand" self-propelled gun and other enemy targets, earning the Order of Glory, 3rd Class.

Post-War Years

After the war, Mordukhovich returned to Birobidzhan and pursued a career in the media. He worked in the regional television and radio broadcasting committee, including as editor and chairman. To enhance his professional skills, he obtained a history degree from Khabarovsk State Pedagogical Institute and studied journalism at the Khabarovsk Higher Party School.

As a veteran journalist, he contributed to regional newspapers, publicistic collections, and television programs. He was also a member of the working group for the publication of the Book of Remembrance (commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Great Victory).

In the late 1990s, Mordukhovich relocated to Israel, where he passed away on April 21, 2013.
