Biography of Abubakari Yakubu
Abubakari Yakubu is a Ghanaian football player who began his career at the Ghanaian club "Ghapoha Riders" in the city of Tema. In 2004, Yakubu moved to the Netherlands and signed a contract with Amsterdam's "Ajax".
Yakubu made his debut for Ajax on April 19, 2000, in a match of the 1999/2000 Dutch championship season against "De Graafschap", but only played 5 matches in his first season. In 2002, Yakubu became the Dutch champion and also won the Dutch Cup and Super Cup. In total, Yakubu played 88 official matches for Ajax: 65 in the Dutch championship, 19 matches in European competitions (including 11 Champions League matches), and 4 others. His last match for Ajax was on May 16, 2004, against "Willem II", and in the same year, Yakubu won his last championship with Ajax.
On April 15, 2004, Yakubu signed a four-year contract with the club "Vitesse" from the city of Arnhem, for a transfer fee of €750,000. At Vitesse, Abubakari quickly became a first-team player, playing 31 matches in the 2004/2005 season. In the 2006/2007 season, Yakubu only played 4 matches due to an injury. In the 2007/2008 season, Yakubu returned to the first team and played 17 matches in the championship. His contract with Vitesse expired in 2009.
Yakubu represented the Ghanaian youth national team (under 17) at the 1997 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Egypt. His team reached the final but lost to the Brazilian youth national team with a score of 2-1. Yakubu made his debut for the Ghana national team in 2002. In 2006, he participated in the African Cup of Nations but his team failed to advance from the group stage.
