Born in Marrakesh in 1979, Ashraf Baznani discovered photography serendipitously. After receiving an EKTRA compact 250 camera as a birthday gift, he became captivated by the art of capturing images. Self-taught, Baznani honed his skills without formal training.

In addition to photography, Baznani ventured into filmmaking. He directed several short films and documentaries, including "On" (2006), "Forgotten" (2007), and "Immigrant" (2007), which garnered national and international recognition.

Baznani gained prominence as one of the first Arab artists to publish photobooks based on surrealist imagery.
