Biography of Stanley Donwood

Stanley Donwood, also known by his real name Dan Rickwood, is a contemporary British artist and designer. He is best known for his long-term collaboration with the band Radiohead. Donwood studied art at the University of Exeter, where he met the future Radiohead vocalist, Thom Yorke.

Collaboration with Radiohead

Donwood's first project for Radiohead was designing the cover artwork for the "My Iron Lung" EP in 1994. This marked the beginning of a fruitful partnership that transformed his life. He became responsible for creating the album and single covers, posters, t-shirts, and all merchandise sold through the band's fan club, W.A.S.T.E. Donwood's most recognizable contribution to Radiohead's visual identity is the mutant bear logo, which has become synonymous with the band.

Evolution of Album Artwork

Donwood and Yorke often collaborate on their artistic projects, with Yorke signing his work as Tchock or Dr. Tchock. Donwood held solo exhibitions in London and Barcelona in 2006, followed by additional shows in Rotterdam and London in 2007. These exhibitions were accompanied by interviews, press publications, and autograph sessions, gradually revealing the enigmatic artist behind the scenes. Donwood also publishes his own newspaper, "Taglibro," to share news and updates about his work.
