Early Education and Honors
Diegel's musical journey began at the University of Memphis, where he studied philosophy and theology. He later honed his vocal skills at Yale University. In 2003, he gained recognition as a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was also awarded the Ostrander Theatre Award for his performance as the Prince in Sondheim's "Into the Woods."
Operatic Career
Diegel's operatic debut came in the title role of Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. He has since performed in a range of productions, including "Carmen" at the Florida Grand Opera and Madison Opera, and "La bohème" with Opera Omaha and Minnesota Opera.
In 2007, Diegel made his debut at the Glimmerglass Festival as Cavaradossi in "Tosca," a role he later reprised at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. His international career has also included performances as Maurizio in "Adriana Lecouvreur" at the National Theatre of Hungary and as Cavaradossi in "Tosca" on the same stage.
Metropolitan Opera Debut
Diegel's Metropolitan Opera debut occurred in the 2010-2011 season in a new production of Wagner's "Das Rheingold." He has since appeared at the Met in productions of "Madama Butterfly" and "Nabucco."
