Biography of Adam Kimmel
Adam Kimmel is an American designer, founder and owner of the eponymous brand 'Adam Kimmel'. He is considered a young star of New York high fashion and specializes in creating a rugged, distinctly American style using luxurious and soft fabrics. Drawing inspiration from various artists, Kimmel constantly invents new and amazing concepts for each season's collections.
Early Life and Education
Adam Kimmel was born and raised in New York City. Initially, he did not consider a career in fashion and enrolled in the architecture program at New York University (NYU), where he also studied contemporary art. While earning his bachelor's degree, Kimmel simultaneously designed and created clothing mostly for his friends.
Experience in Italy and Foundation of 'Adam Kimmel' Brand
Soon after graduating, Kimmel moved to Italy to work with renowned Italian tailors and pattern makers, gaining the necessary experience. In 2002, he founded his own brand, which produces clothing for men and became known for its impeccably tailored classic menswear pieces. Another characteristic feature of his collections is the combination of masculine ruggedness with intricate elegance.
Recognition and Success
Kimmel's first collection, 'FW2004', had a very homely look and mainly consisted of jumpsuits. The collection caught the immediate attention of the avant-garde boutique 'Colette' in Paris, followed by numerous fashion magazine editors, stylists, and photographers. This led to the establishment of Kimmel's studio in West Chelsea, Manhattan.
Personal Life and Passion for Art
In January 2009, Kimmel began dating his future wife, 25-year-old actress Leelee Sobieski, who is also from New York City. The couple announced their engagement on July 17, 2009, and in September, Sobieski revealed that she was pregnant. On December 15 of the same year, Kimmel and Sobieski became parents to their first daughter, Louisanna Ray Kimmel, who was born at a New York City hospital. The designer and actress got married on August 31, 2010.
In addition to fashion, Adam Kimmel is also passionate about art. He is a member of the acquisition committee for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Manhattan and serves on the board of directors of 'PS1', an art organization affiliated with MoMA. He often references the works of artists who have amazed him in his collections and collaborates with them on his catalogs, Paris presentations, and short films. In recent years, Kimmel has worked with artists such as George Condo, Jim Krantz, Gerard Malanga, Ari Marcopoulos, Meredith Danluck, Dan Colen, David Blaine, and Ryan McGinley.
