Biography of Addé Adesokan
Early Life and EducationAddé Adesokan is a popular German street photographer whose career began in 2010, and within just two years, he became one of the most well-known European photographers. He was born in Hamburg, Germany to Nigerian immigrant parents. Unlike many other African immigrants, his parents were relatively wealthy both in Nigeria and after moving to Germany. Their decision to move to Germany was driven by their desire to "open up the world" for their son. Adesokan excelled in school and was always involved in various initiatives and projects. Finding a job was not difficult for him due to his academic achievements.
Career as a Photographer
Adesokan initially became interested in photography when he was working as a creative director for a major German company and traveling around the world. He realized that he was more interested in the people around the famous landmarks he visited rather than the landmarks themselves. Adesokan quickly acquired a camera due to frequent business trips but only took photographs of the most iconic attractions, which he felt were already easily accessible on the internet. It wasn't until 2010 that he ventured onto the streets of Hamburg with his camera and asked a random passerby for permission to take their photo.
'Triptychs of Strangers' Project
Adesokan soon discovered that what stood out most in his photographs were the unique and vibrant characteristics of individuals, such as accessories that contrasted with their overall style, unusual books, or luxurious black mustaches. This realization led to the inception of his main photography project, 'Triptychs of Strangers.' Within this project, Adesokan captures three photographs of strangers he encounters on the street: their face, their shoes, and another detail that best represents their personality and occupation.
Rise to Prominence
Like most modern photographers, Adesokan began sharing his photographs on popular photo-sharing platforms and websites for young photographers. His early works started attracting attention from visitors, and his colleagues attempted to replicate his success by promoting similar projects.
