Aditya Balani: A Versatile Musician and Educator
Aditya Balani, a renowned guitarist, composer, and songwriter, effortlessly balances his performing career with his passion for teaching music. As an educator, he has imparted guitar and music theory knowledge for over seven years at two prestigious Indian schools: Peformer's Collective and Gurgaon School of Music.
Collaborations and Performances
Balani has collaborated with various bands, including 'Advaita' (an Indian fusion ensemble founded in 2004), 'Artistes Unlimited,' 'Crimson,' 'Think Floyd,' and 'Incognito,' as a guitarist and songwriter. He has shared the stage with notable artists such as American jazz drummer Kenwood Dennard, virtuoso guitarist David Fiuczynski, saxophonist Karl D. Clemens, Indian actor-composer Dhruv Ghanekar, and renowned Indian vocalist and Hindustani classical musician Shubha Mudgal.
Musical Exploration and Education
Constantly seeking new musical styles and techniques, Balani ventured to Boston in 2006, receiving a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, a renowned American music school. During his studies, he participated in prestigious events like the International Folk Festival and 'Guitar Night' festival. Notably, he won the Kenwood Dennard Competition in 2007 and performed with him live at the Cambridge Arts Festival.
Advaita: Bridging East and West
In 2004, Balani co-founded 'Advaita' with Abhishek Mathur, a group that has brought together stellar Indian musicians, blending Western songwriting and harmonies with elements of Hindustani classical music. 'Advaita' has earned significant acclaim in the Indian music scene, releasing its debut album 'Grounded in Space' on the 'Virgin/EMI Records' label in March 2009.
Teaching and Aditya Balani Group
Balani's passion for teaching continues to inspire him, as he imparts his knowledge and skills to his students. He has formed his own ensemble, 'Aditya Balani Group,' featuring talented musicians from India, Spain, Serbia, Bulgaria, and the United States. The group's music blends ethnic elements from diverse musical cultures with jazz rhythms, improvisations, and spontaneity. The band has toured extensively in India and the US, with their second tour in 2009 and an album release anticipated in 2010.
