Early Career and Rise with Estudiantes

Born and raised in La Plata, Argentina, Leandro Desábato began his footballing journey with local club Estudiantes. After a brief stint with Quilmes, he returned to Estudiantes in 2005.

The Golden Match and Championship Title

Desábato played a crucial role in Estudiantes' victory in the Apertura 2006 championship final. In the "Golden Match" against Boca Juniors on December 13, 2006, his defensive prowess helped secure Estudiantes their first Argentine Primera División title in 23 years.

Goal-Scoring Defender and Comparison to a Legend

Desábato gained recognition as a goal-scoring defender, with his abilities drawing comparisons to Argentine legend and former Estudiantes player José Luis Brown by respected publication Olé. This unique combination of defensive solidity and attacking threat made him a valuable asset for his team.

Triumph in the Copa Libertadores

In 2009, Desábato played a significant role in Estudiantes' Copa Libertadores triumph. A serious injury prevented him from participating in the final matches, but his contributions in the earlier stages were crucial to the team's eventual success. Estudiantes lifted their fourth Copa Libertadores trophy, their first in 39 years.

Departure from Estudiantes and Later Career

In 2010, Desábato left Estudiantes to join Newell's Old Boys. He continued his career there and later played for other Argentine clubs such as Quilmes and Chacarita Juniors.
