Biography of Cristiano Junior
Brazilian Footballer, ForwardCristiano Junior arrived in India in 2003 from Brazil, where he played for "Vasco da Gama" and "Sampaio Correa". In his first year of playing in the new country for the club "East Bengal", Junior became the best footballer in India and helped his team win the championship title. In September 2004, Junior transferred to the club "Dempo", becoming the highest-paid footballer in the Indian league. In December 2004, "Dempo" played in the final of the Indian Cup against the "Mohun Bagan" club. In the 78th minute, Junior, after scoring a goal (2:0), was hit by the opposing goalkeeper Subrata Pal and collapsed. He died on the way to the hospital. Club Career
Junior, who was the highest-paid footballer in India, signed a contract with "Dempo" in September 2004. He transferred to "Dempo" from the Kolkata-based club "East Bengal", where he formed a good partnership with Baichung Bhutia and helped his team clinch the championship title in the 2003/2004 season.
"Dempo" announced that they would retire the number 10 jersey of Junior. The club filed a complaint of criminal negligence against the player Subrata Pal, Hosmat Hospital, and the Karnataka State Football Association, the local organizers. Pal was suspended from playing for 2 months.
