Agustín Goiburú: A Paraguayan Political Activist
Augustín Goiburú was a prominent Paraguayan political figure and leader of the Popular Colorado Movement, an opposition group to the dictatorial regime of Alfredo Stroessner.
Hunt for Goiburú
In 1977, Goiburú's life took a dramatic turn when he became the target of an international manhunt. Brazilian and Argentinian intelligence agencies joined forces with their Paraguayan counterparts in pursuit of Goiburú. While he resided in Brazil, the Itaipu intelligence services kept him under surveillance, and on February 9, 1977, Goiburú was abducted by the Argentinian secret police.
