Agvan Arshavirovich Vardanyan (Armenian: Ագվան Արշավիրի Վարդանյան) was an Armenian public and state figure. He was born on October 7, 1958, in the village of Gemur, Nakhchivan SSR. Vardanyan graduated from the Philological Faculty of Yerevan State University in 1977-1982 and served as the responsible secretary of the newspaper "Yerevani Amalsaran" from 1982 to 1987.
Early Career
Starting from 1987, Vardanyan became a member of the Union of Writers of Armenia and later joined the Union of Journalists of Armenia in 1992. He worked as a literary collaborator for the magazines "Garun" and "Ashkhar" from 1988 to 1989 and served as a correspondent for the newspaper "Ayk" from 1989 to 1990. He was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize in Armenia in 1989.
Writing and Editorial Roles
From 1990 to 1993, Vardanyan worked as the Secretary of the Union of Writers of Armenia and served as the Chief Editor of the newspaper "Erkir" from 1991 to 1993. He worked as a correspondent for Radio "Svoboda" from 1993 to 1994 and as the editor of the newspaper "Droshak" in Athens from 1994 to 1996. Vardanyan then became the Chief Editor of the Information Center "Yerevan" from 1996 to 1999.
Political Career
In 1998, Vardanyan led the press service of the pre-election headquarters of Armenian presidential candidate Robert Kocharyan. From 1999 to 2003, he served as a deputy in the parliament and was a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, followed by the State-Legal Issues Committee. He was a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun party.
Ministerial Role
Since 2003, Vardanyan has been serving as the Minister of Labor and Social Security of Armenia.
