Vakhtang Chargelishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1953. His parents were Georgian civil servants. He studied Oriental Studies at Tbilisi State University.
Career in Journalism and Politics
After graduating, Chargelishvili worked as a teacher, editor, and translator at GCRIF (Sakartvelo Information Agency). In April 1989, he co-founded the Royalist Party. He was elected chairman of the party at its founding convention on September 29, 1989.
Chairman of the Supreme Council
From April 18, 1991, to January 2, 1992, Chargelishvili served as Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia. During his tenure, he was also Chairman of the Union of Georgian Traditionalists (UGT).
