Early Life and Family

Akmarzhan Kalmurzaeva was born on December 25, 1995, in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. She is the daughter of Kairat, a professor of sports, and Aizhamal, an art teacher. Akmarzhan has five siblings: brothers Nursultan, Beksultan, and Kanat, and sisters Aruzhan and Nazerke.

Sports Career

Kalmurzaeva's sporting journey began with rhythmic gymnastics at the age of seven. At 11, she transitioned to aerial skiing. Her family made significant sacrifices to support her passion, and she vowed to repay them with victories on the world stage.

Freestyle Accomplishments

Kalmurzaeva made her debut in freestyle skiing at the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Almaty, where she finished fourth in women's freestyle aerials. In 2012, she competed at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships.

In 2015, a knee injury sidelined Kalmurzaeva for the entire 2015/2016 season. However, she returned stronger than ever, competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and placing in the top ten four times at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships.

Personal Life

Family plays a crucial role in Kalmurzaeva's life. She has a close bond with her mother and younger brother, Kanat. She speaks Kazakh, Russian, and English fluently.

Kalmurzaeva enjoys painting, cooking, and spending time with animals, especially horses and birds. Her sporting idol is Belarusian freestyle skier Anna Guskova.

Recent Achievements

In 2022, Kalmurzaeva represented Kazakhstan at the Winter Olympics in Beijing. She qualified for the finals of the freestyle aerials competition, finishing in 11th place after a difficult fall.
