Early Life and Family
Akshin Alizada was born on 22 May 1937, in Baku, Azerbaijan. His mother, Bika-khanum, was the sister of the Soviet hero Mehti Guseyn-zade, while his father, Aligulu Alizada, was a connoisseur of classical Eastern poetry and a performer of folk songs. He was connected to prominent figures in Azerbaijani art, including poet Aliagha Vahid and composer Tofik Guliyev.
Accomplishments in Music
Azerbaijani BalletAlizada made a significant contribution to the development of Azerbaijani ballet. In 1979, he created the first Azerbaijani heroic-epic ballet, "Babek," based on the poem by Ilya Selvinsky (premiered in 1986).
His subsequent ballet, "Journey to the Caucasus," reflected events from Azerbaijani history and featured the character of poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan. It explored contemporary historical issues, embodying the concept of "the past in the present." This theme of projecting past events into modern life culminated in his one-act ballet, "Waltz of Hope."
Leadership and Recognition
Alizada served as the head of the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan and as Secretary of the Board of the Union of Composers of the USSR. He was recognized as a People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR and received the State Prize of the USSR.
