Al Marconi is a British guitarist known for his unique blend of flamenco and rumba music. His journey with the guitar began at the age of 13 when he picked up his father's old electric guitar, a 'Hofner', and it was love at first touch. Immersed in his father's collection of 'Shadows records', Al knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue music for the rest of his life.
Al's musical path started with progressive and alternative rock before transitioning into a period of thrash metal. It was during this time that he discovered the beauty of classical music, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. This led Al to explore a passionate romance with the guitar and nylon strings. This new instrument marked a complete change in his musical direction.
Over the next few years, Al dedicated himself to mastering the guitar without any formal musical education or the help of teachers. He honed his skills through challenging technical exercises within the realm of popular classical material. However, it wasn't long before Al grew disillusioned with the methodological foundation and somewhat mechanical nature of playing, accompanied by the majority of standard classical repertoire. These obstacles limited the "more passionate and fiery side" of his musical temperament.
One evening, while sharing the stage with a guitar duo, Al heard cover versions of songs by the Gipsy Kings, including the style of rumba flamenco. The genre immediately resonated with him, and Al realized that it would be the perfect means for self-expression and exploring the "more aggressive and dynamic side" of his own playing. In the following years, Al began composing and recording his own original music in the flamenco rumba style.
With enough material gathered, Al released his debut album, 'Equilibrium', in 1997. The album was a fusion of the new and old styles that Al had yet to fully abandon. 'Equilibrium' achieved some success, prompting Al to focus on developing his creative and compositional skills. He placed his bets on originality of sound.
As a result of his self-improvement, Al presented the album 'Monument' in 1999, followed by 'Esperanto' in 2001, 'Terra Nova' in 2007, 'Insomnia' in 2011, and 'Alchemy' in 2015. The constant development of modern technology and innovative software allowed Al to explore the nature of new sounds and textures and introduce a "more colorful and exotic sound palette" into his equation. These changes helped him select a sound that satisfied not only himself but also the world.
Al has become one of the most recognized, highly acclaimed, and respected guitarists internationally, with promising prospects for future development. Today, he is among the best-selling independent instrumental guitarists in the United Kingdom (UK). His albums sell successfully worldwide, and he performs both in his home region of southwest England and abroad, including Peru and Mexico.
