The Early Years
Alain Boghossian began his footballing journey at Olympique de Marseille, honing his skills in their youth academy. Seeking regular playing time, he joined FC Istres in the second division in 1992. After a successful season, Boghossian returned to Marseille.
Serie A Adventure
Boghossian's talent caught the attention of Italian Serie A giants Napoli, who signed him in 1994. After three seasons in Naples, he moved to Sampdoria and then to Parma. With Parma, he triumphed in the 1998/99 UEFA Cup Final, a 3-0 victory over his former club Marseille.
Spanish Sojourn
In 2002, Boghossian crossed the Pyrenees to join Spanish Primera División side Espanyol. He spent one season with the club before retiring from professional football.
International Career
Boghossian was a mainstay in the French national team from 1997 to 2002. He represented France in the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups, lifting the trophy in 1998.
Coaching Stint
From 2008 to 2012, Boghossian served as assistant manager of the French national team until the appointment of Didier Deschamps.
Personal Life
Boghossian is of Armenian-Argentine descent. In 2001, he joined Yuri Djorkaeff in expressing gratitude to the French president for recognizing the Armenian Genocide. He is also an honorary citizen of Armenia.
