André-Pierre Gignac is a French professional footballer who plays as a striker for Mexican club Tigres and the France national team. He is the cousin of fellow footballers Jacques Abardonado and Yohan Mollo.

Early Life and Career

Gignac, born to a French father and a French-Algerian mother, began his football career at the age of 5 with local club Fos. He then played in the academies of Martigues and Lorient, the latter of which competed in Ligue 2. He made his professional debut for Lorient on August 13, 2004, coming on as a substitute against Châteauroux and scoring a winning goal within seconds of entering the pitch.

Rise to Prominence

The following season, Gignac was loaned to third-tier club Pau where he scored 8 goals in 18 appearances. He returned to Lorient in January 2006 and helped the club earn promotion to Ligue 1. In his first top-flight season, Gignac impressed with 9 goals in 37 appearances, including a hat-trick in the first 27 minutes of a match against Nantes.
