Alan Holmer, a skilled diplomat and experienced negotiator, has been appointed to represent the United States in trade negotiations once again. With a wealth of experience in this field, Holmer previously led US delegations in trade negotiations during the presidency of Ronald Reagan.

Early Life and Education

Alan Holmer was born in 1949 and grew up in New York. He graduated with honors from the prestigious Princeton University in 1971 and obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University in 1978.

Political Career

Holmer embarked on his political career in the mid-1970s when he became an assistant to Republican Senator Bob Packwood. In 1981, he secured a position in the White House as the Deputy Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs. For two years, he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Import Administration.

Diplomatic Achievements

In 1987, President Reagan bestowed upon Holmer the rank of Ambassador, and he represented the United States in trade negotiations. After two years, Holmer transitioned to the private sector and became an advisor to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. In 1996, he assumed the role of President of the association.

Recent Appointment and Personal Life

With his extensive experience as a negotiator, Holmer was appointed as the United States' Special Representative for Strategic Economic Dialogue with China in February of this year. He is married and has a daughter and a son.
