Biography of Alan Roger Mulally

Alan Roger Mulally is an American engineer and businessman who served as a member of the board of directors of Google Inc. Before his appointment as the president of the American multinational company Ford in September 2006, Mulally held the position of executive vice president of The Boeing Company, one of the world's largest manufacturers of aviation, space, and defense technology. He also served as the president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes division.

Alan Roger Mulally was born on August 4, 1945, in Oakland, California. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Kansas, as well as a Master's degree in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Career at Boeing

Prior to his role at Ford, Mulally was the executive vice president of The Boeing Company and responsible for all commercial programs and services. He was also a member of the executive council of The Boeing Company and the company's senior official in the Pacific Northwest region. Mulally served as the president of two divisions of Boeing, namely Boeing Information and Space & Defense Systems, and was its senior vice president. He joined Boeing in 1969 and made significant contributions to the development of Boeing models such as the 727, 737, 747, 757, and 767.

Throughout his career, Mulally received numerous accolades for his contributions to the company and his leadership abilities. He was named one of the "World's Most Influential People" by Time magazine in 2009. In 2006, Mulally was named "Person of the Year" by Aviation Week, and in 2005, BusinessWeek included him in its list of "Best Leaders."

Prior to his roles at Ford and Boeing, Mulally served as the co-chairman of the Washington Competitiveness Council and represented the advisory board of NASA, Washington University, the University of Kansas, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in England. Mulally is also a former president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and chairman of the board of the Aerospace Industries Association.

Personal Life

Currently, Alan Mulally resides 4.8 km away from Ford's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. He arrives at his office at 5:15 a.m. every morning and works for 12 hours. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, golf, and reading.
