Biography of Alan Mulally

Alan Roger Mulally is an American engineer and businessman who has served in several prominent roles throughout his career. He was born on August 4, 1945, in Oakland, California. Mulally earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Kansas State University. He also obtained a Master's degree in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Career at Boeing

Prior to his appointment as President and CEO of Ford Motor Company in September 2006, Mulally held the position of Executive Vice President at The Boeing Company, one of the world's largest aerospace, defense, and commercial product manufacturers. He also served as President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, where he was responsible for all commercial programs and related services. Mulally was a member of the Executive Council of The Boeing Company and served as the Senior Executive in the Pacific Northwest region.

Throughout his tenure at Boeing, Mulally held various leadership positions, including President of Boeing Information and Space & Defense Systems divisions. He served as Senior Vice President of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group, overseeing flight test operations, certification, and engineering. Mulally joined Boeing in 1969 and played a key role in the development of aircraft models such as the 727, 737, 747, 757, and 767.

Throughout his career, Mulally has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the industry and his exceptional leadership abilities. He was named one of Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World" in 2009. Aviation Week recognized him as "Person of the Year" in 2006, and BusinessWeek included him in their list of "Top 25 Managers" in 2005.

Mulally has also held several advisory roles, including Co-Chairman of the Washington State Competitiveness Council and member of the advisory board for NASA, the University of Washington, Kansas State University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering in the United States and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in England. Mulally served as President of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and Chairman of the board of the Aerospace Industries Association.

Current Life and Interests

Currently, Alan Mulally resides approximately 3 miles from Ford's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. He arrives at his office at 5:15 every morning and works for 12 hours a day. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys playing tennis, golf, and reading.
