Albert Rösti: Swiss Politician and Federal Councillor
Early Life and EducationAlbert Rösti was born in August 1967 in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland. Following his schooling, he pursued higher education in agronomy at the University of Zurich and earned another degree from Rochester University in the United States in 2002.
Political Career
Rösti's career in politics began with his involvement in the Swiss People's Party (SVP). He rose through the ranks within the party's Bernese chapter and became its leader in 2016. Under his leadership, the SVP grew and gained prominence in Swiss politics.
Federal Councillor
In late 2022, Rösti emerged as a candidate for election to the seven-member Federal Council of Switzerland. He was elected in the first round of voting in December and took office on January 1st, 2023. He was assigned the portfolio of Environment, Transport, Energy, and Communications.
Personal Life
Albert Rösti resides in Itendorf, where he has lived and worked since returning from the United States. He is married and has two children.
