Early Life and Education

Born in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Ukraine, Meir Vaynbaum spent his childhood in Łódź, Poland. He pursued art education at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts and in Odessa.

Artistic Journey

In 1910, Vaynbaum relocated to Paris, where he immersed himself in the art scene. He participated in the First International Art Exhibition in Düsseldorf in 1922. Vaynbaum's artworks were showcased in prestigious venues such as the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries.

Personal Life and Tragedy

During the Nazi occupation of France in 1943, Vaynbaum and his family were apprehended in Marseille. They were interned in Compiègne and later transferred to the Drancy transit camp. Vaynbaum perished in either Auschwitz or Sobibor the same year.

Artistic Legacy

Vaynbaum is renowned for his captivating still lifes and portraits. His paintings encompass biblical imagery and scenes from Jewish life. A significant portion of his work was featured in the exhibition "Marc Chagall and Others" held at the "AVEK" Gallery in Kharkiv, Ukraine in 2007. Vaynbaum's contributions to art continue to be celebrated and remembered to this day.
