Biography of Alberto Garcia Aspe
Alberto Garcia Aspe, also known as "El Beto," is a former Mexican footballer and one of the leaders of the Mexican national team of all time in terms of the number of matches played. He scored 21 goals in 109 appearances.
Club Career
Garcia Aspe began his club career in 1984 with UNAM Pumas, where his team won 4-1 against "Puebla". He spent most of his career playing for Mexican teams such as UNAM Pumas, "Necaxa," "America," and "Puebla." In 1995, he briefly played for Argentina's "River Plate". Garcia Aspe won 4 Mexican championships - with UNAM Pumas (1991) and "Necaxa" (1995, 1996, and 1997). In total, Alberto played in 518 matches in the Mexican League, scoring 142 goals and providing 51 assists. His last appearance in the Mexican League was against "Morelia," where his team lost 2-5.
International Career
Alberto Garcia Aspe made his debut for the Mexican national team on April 26, 1988, in a 4-1 victory over Honduras. He represented Mexico in three World Cups (1994, 1998, and 2002), four Copa Americas (1993, 1995, 1999, and 2001), and participated in the 1995 FIFA Confederations Cup (predecessor of the Confederations Cup). He won the Confederations Cup in 1999. He scored goals in the 1994 World Cup against Bulgaria and the 1998 World Cup against Belgium, both from penalties. In the 2002 World Cup, Garcia Aspe appeared in only one game, playing 12 minutes against the United States.
Life after Football
Currently, Alberto Garcia Aspe works as a commentator for Televisa. He is also involved in the annual Mexican fundraiser for children called Teleton.
