Biography of Albina Deryugina
Albina Deryugina is a famous coach in rhythmic gymnastics. She was born in Ukraine and has dedicated her life to training athletes in this sport.
Early Life and Education
Deryugina attended the Dnipropetrovsk Physical Culture College and later the Kyiv Institute of Physical Culture. After completing her education, she began her coaching career. She worked as a coach at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the "Spartak" society.
Coaching Career
By the early 1970s, Deryugina had gained recognition for her work and established the Kyiv School of Rhythmic Gymnastics. She trained several successful gymnasts, starting with group exercises and later producing individual champions. One of her notable students was her daughter, Irina Deryugina, who became the first individual rhythmic gymnastics champion.
Deryugina's coaching career extended beyond the Soviet Union. After 1992, she became the head coach of the Ukrainian national team and served as a member of the executive committee of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. Throughout her years as a coach, she trained Olympic champions, world champions, and European champions. Some of her notable athletes include Olga Shegoleva, Olga Plokhova, Victoria Serykh, Lyudmila Yevtushenko, Oksana Skaldina, and Ellina Khosla.
Legacy
Deryugina's achievements in coaching led to her being recognized with numerous awards and honors. She became the president of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation in 1986. Under her leadership, the Kyiv School of Rhythmic Gymnastics gained international recognition. Today, the school continues to be managed by Albina Deryugina and her daughter, Irina Deryugina.
Honors and Awards
Throughout her career, Deryugina received several prestigious honors and awards, including the titles of Merited Coach of Ukraine and Merited Coach of the Soviet Union. She was also recognized as a Merited Worker of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR and a Judge of International Category. Deryugina was the recipient of the Order of Honor, Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals, such as the "For the Preparation of Sports Masters" and the "For Valiant Labor in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of V.I. Lenin's Birth." She also received the Honorary Diploma from the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR, the Gold Medal from the President of the Russian Olympic Committee, the Sign of Honor from the Kyiv City Administration, and the Honorary Distinction from the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. In 2002, she was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, along with the Order of the State.
