Jonas Kazlauskas: A Legendary Basketball Coach
Early Life and Playing CareerJonas Kazlauskas was born in Raseiniai, Lithuania, and began playing basketball at a young age. From 1973 to 1985, he played for the "Statyba" basketball club (now "Rytas"), winning a bronze medal in the USSR championship in 1979.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing, Kazlauskas embarked on a successful coaching career. He has led some of the most prestigious clubs and national teams in Europe and Asia.
Lithuanian Clubs and National Team
Kazlauskas coached the Lithuanian clubs "Zalgiris" and "Lietuvos Rytas," winning six Lithuanian championships between 1995 and 2002. He also coached the Lithuanian national team from 1997 to 2001.
International Success
Kazlauskas has coached several national teams to notable achievements. He led the Chinese national team to the Asian championship in 2005 and the Asian Games in 2006. In 2009, he guided the Greek national team to a bronze medal at the European championship.
CSKA Moscow
From 2010 to 2012, Kazlauskas served as the head coach of CSKA Moscow, one of the most successful basketball clubs in Europe. During his tenure, he won two PBL championships (2011, 2012).
Return to Lithuanian National Team
Kazlauskas returned to coach the Lithuanian national team from 2012 to 2016. Under his leadership, the team achieved consistency and competed at a high level.
Assistant Coaching and Chinese Championship
From 2012 to 2015, Kazlauskas served as an assistant coach for the Guangdong Tigers in China. In 2013, he led the team to the Chinese championship.
Awards and Honors
Kazlauskas has been recognized for his exceptional coaching abilities throughout his career. He has been named the Lithuanian Coach of the Year in 2002 and has received numerous other awards and accolades.
