Early Life and Playing CareerAlejandro Javier Sabella, known as "Pachorra," was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 5, 1954. His football journey began in the youth ranks of Club Atlético River Plate. In 1974, he joined the first team, where he showcased his exceptional ball-handling skills, accurate passing, and calm composure in midfield.
Sabella's notable achievement with River Plate was being part of the squad that won the league title in 1975, ending an 18-year drought. In 1978, he crossed the Atlantic to join English club Sheffield United. Though initially a backup option, he made a significant impact on the team, scoring 8 goals in 80 appearances.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player in 1989, Sabella embarked on a successful coaching career. He assisted legendary Argentine footballer and coach Daniel Passarella. In 2009, he took over as head coach of Estudiantes de La Plata, his former playing club.
National Team Success
