Early Life and Career

Alexander Turchynov was born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. He graduated with honors from the Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute and worked at the "Kryvorizhstal" plant.

Political Activism

In the late 1980s, Turchynov became involved in politics as the secretary of the Komsomol district committee and later the head of the agitation and propaganda department of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Komsomol.

Economic Reform

In the early 1990s, Turchynov worked as a journalist and in various economic roles. He served as an advisor to Prime Minister Leonid Kuchma and later became the director of the Institute of Economic Reforms and the head of the Laboratory for the Study of the Shadow Economy at the Institute of Russia of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Political Career

In 1994, Turchynov co-founded the "Hromada" party. In 1998, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) on the Hromada party list and became the head of the Committee on Budget Issues. In 1999, he joined the "Batkivshchyna" party, led by Yulia Tymoshenko, and became its deputy.

In 2005, after Tymoshenko's victory in the presidential election, Turchynov was appointed as the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). He initiated reforms to create two separate structures: a national intelligence agency and a national bureau of investigations.

First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine

In 2007, Turchynov was appointed as the first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC). He was also re-elected to the Verkhovna Rada and became the first vice-prime minister of Ukraine.

Academic and Religious Activities

Turchynov holds a doctorate in economics and is a professor. He has published numerous academic works and a thriller novel titled "Illusion of Fear." He is also a preacher in an evangelical church.
