Early Life and Education

Aleksandra Dulkiewicz was born on January 7, 1979, in Gdańsk, Poland, to Zbigniew Dulkiewicz (1949-2002) and Izabella Łoś (born 1953). Her parents were active in the anti-communist underground during the Polish People's Republic as part of the "Young Poland Movement."

Dulkiewicz attended Emilia Plater Primary School No. 50 (graduating in 1994) and the III General Education Lyceum named after the Heroes of Westerplatte (graduating in 1999), both in Gdańsk. In 2006, she earned a law degree from the University of Gdańsk after also studying law at the University of Salzburg from 2004 to 2006.

Political Beginnings

Dulkiewicz's political career began in the Conservative People's Party (KPN) and its youth organization. She played a role in Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz's election campaign and worked on the Gdansk Areopagus organization from 2000.

She was involved in the preparations for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Gdańsk and worked at the European Solidarity Centre and the Gdansk Economic Development Agency Invest.

City Council Member and Deputy Mayor

Dulkiewicz served as an assistant to Paweł Adamowicz and as the chairperson of the Civic Platform (PO) caucus on the Gdańsk City Council. From March 17, 2017, to January 14, 2019, she was Deputy Mayor of Gdańsk responsible for economic policy.

In the 2018 local government elections, she led Paweł Adamowicz's election campaign.

Acting Mayor of Gdańsk

Following the assassination of Paweł Adamowicz, Dulkiewicz became Acting Mayor of Gdańsk. On January 17, 2019, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki appointed her as Commissioner (Acting Mayor) of Gdańsk until a new elected mayor assumed office.

Mayor of Gdańsk

Dulkiewicz won the Gdańsk mayoral by-election on March 3, 2019, with 82.22% of the votes (139,790). She took office on March 11, becoming the first woman to lead the city.

Personal Life

Aleksandra Dulkiewicz is married and has a daughter, Zofia (born 2008).
