Natalya Petkevich: A Belarusian Politician and Former Presidential Aide
Early Life and Education
Natalya Petkevich was born in Belarus and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Belarusian State University in 1994. In 1999, she earned a Candidate of Law degree with a dissertation titled "Foreign Economic Transactions (Legal Aspects)."
Career in the Presidential Administration
Petkevich began her career in the Belarusian presidential administration as a leading specialist and later as head of the Department of State and International Law. In 2001, she became press secretary for President Alexander Lukashenko, and in 2004, she was promoted to Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration.
First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration
On January 9, 2009, Petkevich was appointed First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. She held this position until December 28, 2010.
International Travel Ban
Petkevich was banned from entering the United States and the European Union due to her alleged involvement in the manipulation of the 2006 presidential election results in Belarus.
Assistant to the President
After leaving the presidential administration, Petkevich became an assistant to the President of Belarus. In 2014, she was removed from this position by President Lukashenko.
Personal Life
Petkevich married Alexander Ivanovich Martynenko, Deputy Chairman of the National State Television and Radio Company of Belarus, in 2009. In 2018, she married diplomat Valentin Rybakov, Belarus' Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Other Leadership Roles
In addition to her political career, Petkevich is also Vice-Chairman of the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers and Chairman of the Belarusian Ski Union.
