Biography of Alexei Belik
Alexei Belik is a Ukrainian football player who currently plays as a forward for the German club "Bochum" and the Ukrainian national team. He was born in Donetsk, Ukraine, and grew up in a family of miners. Belik was trained at the Donetsk Football School.
Playing Style and Achievements
Belik usually plays as a center forward and is known for his excellent goal-scoring ability, quick reactions, and aerial prowess. He enjoys playing with flair, often attempting spectacular moves such as overhead kicks and back-heel shots. However, he is also a reliable player in set-piece situations and has the ability to finish chances, outsmart goalkeepers in one-on-one situations, and assist his teammates.
Belik was a prominent figure in the Ukrainian junior (24 games, 15 goals) and youth (27 games, 17 goals) national teams. In the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Argentina, he scored three goals in the group stage, helping the team reach the round of 16, where they were defeated by future semifinalists from Paraguay.
In September 2004, Belik made his debut for the senior national team and scored a goal in his first game against Kazakhstan. He scored his second goal in official matches against the Georgian national team. As of September 2006, he has played 16 games for the national team, scoring 5 goals. Belik is considered a backup to Andriy Shevchenko and usually only features in the starting lineup when the captain is injured.
During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Belik came on as a substitute in the game against Italy and played the last 20 minutes. At his club, Shakhtar Donetsk, he often played the role of a super-sub as the coach preferred Brazillian forward Brandao or Alexander Gladkiy over him.
By December 2007, Belik had played 143 games and scored 51 goals in the Ukrainian Premier League. In the Ukrainian Cup, he played 32 games and scored 11 goals. He won the Ukrainian championship in 2002, 2005, and 2006.
Move to Bochum
In January 2008, Belik was loaned out to the German club "Bochum" on a free transfer.
