Early Life and Career
Alexei Semenovich Chuyanov was born in 1905. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1925. In 1934, he graduated from the Moscow Chemical-Technological Institute of Meat Industry. From 1937 onwards, he worked in the Central Committee of the CPSU.
Leadership in Stalingrad
In 1938, Chuyanov was appointed First Secretary of the Stalingrad Oblast and City Committees of the CPSU, a position he held until 1946. During this time, he also served as a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1939 to 1952.
In the early stages of the Great Patriotic War (World War II), Chuyanov was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. From 1941 to 1943, he chaired the Stalingrad City Defense Committee.
Chuyanov played a crucial role during the Battle of Stalingrad. He oversaw logistics, reorganized production to support the war effort, and coordinated agricultural activities. He also led the formation of volunteer militias and the evacuation of civilians and valuables from the city.
Post-War Career
After the war, Chuyanov held various leadership positions in government and industry. From 1955 to 1960, he worked in the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on Labor and Wages.
Recognition and Legacy
In 1970, the Volgograd City Council of Working People's Deputies awarded Chuyanov the title of "Honorary Citizen of the Hero City of Volgograd" for his contributions to the defense of the city during the Battle of Stalingrad. He passed away in 1977 and was buried on Mamayev Kurgan.
