Early Life and Education

Alenka Gotar's passion for music began at a young age when she attended music school and received training in piano and guitar. After completing her musical education in Ljubljana, she continued her studies at the Music Academy in Basel, Switzerland.

University Education and Graduate Degree

In 1999, Gotar enrolled at the University of Mozarteum in Salzburg, where she studied under the tutelage of Lilian Sukis. Graduating with a diploma in 2000, she further honed her skills in Salzburg and Rome under the guidance of Maya Sunari-Bianchini, Marjana Lipovšek, and Alfred Burgstaller. She completed her doctoral degree in 2006.

Professional Career

Currently, Gotar is a guest vocalist at the Maribor Opera and has graced the stages of theaters in Salzburg and Ljubljana. Her extensive tour schedule includes performances with orchestras and chamber choirs throughout Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Croatia, and Scandinavia. Her repertoire spans from classical baroque to contemporary works.

Eurovision Song Contest 2007

On February 4, 2007, Gotar emerged as the winner of Slovenia's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She performed her song, "Cvet z juga" (Flower from the South), both in the semi-final and final, securing 15th place in the competition.

Teaching and Legacy

In addition to her performing career, Gotar is also an active music educator. Her passion for music and her dedication to nurturing young talent have left a lasting impact on the world of opera and music education.
