Biography of Alessandro Mori Nunes

Early Career and Club Transfers

Alessandro Mori Nunes, commonly known as Alessandro, is a Brazilian football player who currently plays for the football club "Corinthians". He joined Corinthians after failing to agree on a new contract with "Santos", which expired on December 31, 2007. Alessandro started his career in the youth academy of "Flamengo" and made his debut for the senior team at a young age, despite playing as a full-back. From 1999 to 2001, he won three state championships in Rio de Janeiro and also triumphed in the Brazilian Cup. In the early 2000s, "Flamengo" went through a crisis, both on and off the field, which led Alessandro to go on loan to "Palmeiras" for just over three months. He was then acquired by the Ukrainian team "Dynamo Kyiv" but failed to establish himself in the squad and went on loan to "Cruzeiro" in 2004. From 2005 to 2007, he played for "Gremio", where his contract with "Dynamo Kyiv" ended. After that, Alessandro briefly played for "Santos" until he finally joined "Corinthians" in 2008.

Success with Corinthians

At the time, "Corinthians" was led by Mano Menezes, whom Alessandro knew from his time at "Gremio", where they had won the Serie B together. The situation repeated itself the following year when the second most popular club in the country was relegated from Serie A in 2007. Alessandro helped his new team win Serie B and the following year, they conquered the Brazilian Cup, earning them a spot in the Copa Libertadores. This allowed the club to attract additional sponsors, and soon "Corinthians" was once again competing for top positions. At the end of the 2010 championship, "Corinthians" secured a place in the Copa Libertadores, but only in the preliminary stage.

Championship and Injuries

In early 2011, "Corinthians" sensationally failed to advance past the preliminary stage of the Copa Libertadores, leading Ronaldo to retire early from his career and Roberto Carlos to leave the team as well. The departure of such influential players led to the need for a new captain. Initially, it was Shikan, but he soon had a falling out with the coach Tite, and the armband was passed to Alessandro. In 2011, "Corinthians" became the champion of Brazil, and in 2012, for the first time in its history, reached the final and won the Copa Libertadores. Alessandro missed five out of six group stage matches (except the first one) in this tournament due to injuries but managed to recover in time for the decisive games.

Achievements

Throughout his career, Alessandro has achieved numerous honors and titles, including being crowned Champion of Brazil in 2011. He has also won the Ukrainian Championship in 2004, the Brazilian Serie B Championship twice (2005, 2008), and the state championships of Sao Paulo (2007, 2009, 2013), Rio de Janeiro (1999, 2000, 2001), and Rio Grande do Sul (2006). He has also won the Brazilian Cup of Champions (2001), the Ukrainian Cup (2005), the Copa Libertadores (2012), and the Club World Championship (2012).
