Early Life and Career:Born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine, Sergey Gusyev began his football journey at the age of six in the youth academy of the renowned FC Chornomorets Odessa. Under the guidance of coaches G.I. Bursakov and I.V. Ivanenko, Gusyev developed into a promising young striker.
Military Service and Return to Chornomorets:
Gusyev's career was briefly interrupted by military service in the Odessa SKA. Upon his return, he rejoined Chornomorets and made his mark in the Soviet Top League. From 1988 to 1991, he played 39 matches and scored three goals for the club.
Rise to Stardom:
Tiras Tiraspol and First League Glory:In 1991, Gusyev made a pivotal move to FC Tiras Tiraspol. It was during his time there that he emerged as a prolific goalscorer. With 25 goals in the season, he became the last-ever top scorer of the Soviet First League.

The following year, Gusyev returned to Chornomorets and contributed significantly to their Ukrainian Championship victory in 1992/93. His 17 goals earned him the title of Top Scorer of the Ukrainian Premier League.
