American actress, writer, and comedian Alex Borstein was born on February 15, 1973, in Highland Park, Illinois. She is best known for her roles in television shows such as "MADtv" and "Family Guy".

Alex grew up in a Jewish family, with relatives in Germany, Hungary, Poland, Mongolia, and Russia. Her parents, Judy and Irving Borstein, were both psychotherapists.

After graduating from university in San Francisco, Alex began working at an advertising agency, where she wrote scripts for television commercials. She soon became bored with the agency and enrolled in improvisation classes at the ACME Comedy Theatre.

It was there that she met her future husband, Jackson Douglas, with whom she started writing scripts for films. Together, they came up with the story for the friendly ghost Casper and wrote the script for Steven Spielberg's TV series "Pinky and the Brain" about two lab mice, one of whom becomes super-intelligent while the other remains dim-witted.

In 1996, while still working on Casper, Borstein voiced the character of Queen Machina in the popular TV show "Power Rangers". In 1997, she joined the cast of the comedy show "MADtv" in its third season and quickly became a favorite among viewers. Her most famous role on the show was Miss Swan.

In addition to her role as Miss Swan, Borstein played numerous other popular characters, often alongside Will Sasso. Their collaborations attracted thousands of fans until Borstein left the show in 2002. She also gained recognition for her parody performances, impersonating celebrities such as Rosie O'Donnell, Bjork, Chelsea Clinton, Janeane Garofalo, Monica Lewinsky, Patsy Ramsey, Regis Philbin, and Vivienne Vance.

During her time on "MADtv", Borstein met Seth MacFarlane, who was just starting to work on the comedy show "Family Guy". Borstein became the voice of Lois Griffin and several other characters on the show. "Family Guy" was initially canceled in 2002 but returned to television screens in 2005, and Borstein remains a part of the show, working as an actor, producer, and writer.

In 2000, Borstein had a role in the WB show "Gilmore Girls". However, she only appeared in the pilot episode because her commitment to "MADtv" prevented her from continuing with the show. She did manage to appear in a few episodes of the third and fifth seasons.

In 2003, Borstein portrayed a school principal in the film "Lizzie McGuire" starring Hilary Duff. That same year, she played the best friend of Halle Berry's character in the film "Catwoman" and worked as an office worker in the movie "Good Night, and Good Luck". Borstein also had a small role as an annoying café customer in Will Ferrell's film "Kicking & Screaming".
