Early Life and Career
Alex Brandl is a British racing driver, born into a family with a strong motorsports lineage. His father, Martin Brandl, is a former F1 driver and current commentator. Alex attended Oakham School in Rutland and received support from 2MB Sports Management, a company founded by his father and Mark Blundell. He first ventured into karting at the age of eight.
T Cars and Formula Palmer Audi
Alex Brandl's competitive racing career began in the T Cars Championship, a saloon-based series for drivers aged 14-17. He finished his debut season in eighth place. In late 2006, he switched to the open-wheel Formula Palmer Audi Autumn Trophy, finishing 21st overall. For the 2007 season, he remained in the main championship and placed 11th. He also competed in the Autumn Trophy, improving his performance to eighth.
Formula 2 and Beyond
In 2008, Alex continued in Formula Palmer Audi, securing a pole position and three podium finishes, resulting in a sixth-place finish overall. His impressive performance was witnessed by his father Martin, who attended the Spa-Francorchamps round.
Alex Brandl's success earned him a contract to race in the revived FIA Formula 2 series for the 2009 season. He drove the #5 car, alongside Jolyon Palmer and Jack Clarke, who were promoted from the FPA series. The season is currently ongoing.
