Early Life and Passion for Motorsport

Francesco Godia, a wealthy Spanish businessman, harbored a deep passion for motorsports. His love for racing led him to pursue a career in auto racing.

Debut in Le Mans and Formula 1

In 1949, Godia made his mark in endurance racing, finishing 4th at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside French driver Louis Gerard in a Delage 4. Two years later, he made his Formula 1 debut at the Spanish Grand Prix, securing a 10th place finish with a Maserati 4CLT.

Success with Maserati

Godia joined Maserati's factory team in 1954 and 1956, achieving his best result in 1956. He scored points twice that season, finishing 9th in the championship standings.

Privateer Racing and Retirement

After leaving Maserati, Godia continued to compete in Grand Prix races on a privateer basis, driving a Maserati 250F in 1957 and 1958. In 1969, he retired from racing and turned his attention to the business of selling sports cars, including Ford and Porsche.
