Biography of Alex Harvey

Alex Harvey was a Scottish rock musician, songwriter, and vocalist. He was born in 1935 in Glasgow and grew up in a close-knit family. Despite being surrounded by books and philosophical works, Alex developed a passion for music at a young age. In 1957, he gained recognition as the "Scottish Tommy Steele" and went on to accompany famous artists like Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran on stage.

In 1963, Alex formed his own band called The Alex Harvey Soul Band, which gained attention for their blues-infused rock and Harvey's exceptional guitar skills. The band experienced success in Hamburg, Germany, where they recorded their first album. However, financial difficulties led to the band's dissolution, and Alex returned to Glasgow in 1966.

After a brief stint with a psychedelic band called Giant Moth, Alex found work in the musical "Hair" in 1968. He recorded several albums inspired by the musical before forming the band Tear Gas, later renamed The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. The band quickly gained popularity for their energetic performances and unique blend of rock and showmanship.

Despite personal tragedies, including the death of his brother Leslie in 1972, Alex continued to lead the band and released several successful albums. However, his health began to deteriorate, and he struggled with alcoholism. In 1982, Alex passed away at the age of 46.

Throughout his career, Alex Harvey was known for his sensational and sensitive nature. He was a talented musician, captivating performer, and a true rock and roll icon. Despite his untimely death, his impact on the music industry remains significant.
