Biography of Alex Kingston
Alex Kingston is an actress known for her roles in films such as "Cook, Thief, His Wife & Her Lover"; "Carrington"; "The St. Exupery Story"; "Weapons of Mass Distraction"; and "The Infiltrator." She was born in London and first became interested in theater when she saw her uncle, who was an actor, perform on stage in Germany, where her mother's family is from. Alex made her own acting debut at the age of 5, playing the angel Gabriel in a school production. Despite initially being excited about the role, she was disappointed to learn that Gabriel was actually a male figure.
Early Career
Alex developed a passion for acting and was supported by her English teacher at a girls' school in Epsom, where she often played lead roles in local productions. At the age of 15, she landed her first professional role as a judo practitioner in the popular British TV series "Grange Hill." After finishing school, Alex moved to London and attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where she met her future husband, actor Ralph Fiennes. They lived together for 12 years before getting married in 1993. However, they divorced four years later when Ralph left her for actress Francesca Annis, who was 18 years older than him.
Theater and Television
After completing her studies, Alex joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, touring across England and performing in plays such as "Much Ado About Nothing," "King Lear," and "Othello." She also worked with the Birmingham Theatre Company, appearing in productions such as "The Alchemist," "Julius Caesar," "The Rover," and "Saved." While portraying classical characters on stage, Alex also appeared in contemporary roles on British television. She had roles in series such as "A Killing Exchange," "The Bill," "Crocodile Shoes," "The Knock," and "I Hate Christmas."
Breakthrough Role
Alex's breakthrough role came in the television film "Moll Flanders," based on the classic novel by Daniel Defoe. This role of a strong woman helped her overcome the depression caused by her divorce and caught the attention of the producers of the series ER, who were looking for new faces. Playing the British surgeon Elizabeth Corday made Alex a worldwide celebrity and changed her life for the better.
Personal Life
In December 1997, Alex met German journalist Florian Haertel, whom she married in 1998. They relocated to Los Angeles together. On March 28, 2001, they welcomed a daughter named Salome Violet.
