Early Life and Education
Alexander Danylyuk was born in Ukraine and pursued his education in prominent institutions. He earned a degree from the Kyiv Institute of Investment Management, the National Technical University of Ukraine (KPI), and an MBA from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in the United States. Danylyuk's linguistic abilities are remarkable, as he is proficient in five languages.
Career in Finance and Consulting
Danylyuk's career in finance commenced with his tenure at McKinsey & Company in London and Moscow. Subsequently, he led an investment fund in London for four years. His exceptional skills were recognized when then-President Viktor Yanukovych appointed him as a non-staff advisor and later as the head of the Coordination Center for Economic Reforms in 2010.
Government Roles
Danylyuk's involvement in Ukrainian government began as the Permanent Representative of the President to the Cabinet of Ministers in 2014. In 2015, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. A significant milestone in his career came in April 2016, when he was confirmed as the Minister of Finance in the Groysman government.
Resignation and Dismissal
Danylyuk renounced his British citizenship in May 2016 to pursue a political career in Ukraine. However, his tenure as Minister of Finance came to an end on June 7, 2018, after the Verkhovna Rada voted for his dismissal. The catalyst for this decision was a dispute with Prime Minister Groysman over personnel appointments at the Ministry of Finance. Danylyuk's refusal to compromise his team-building autonomy led to accusations of insubordination and anti-state actions from Groysman.
Post-Government Career
Following his departure from the government, Danylyuk remained active in the public sphere. He became Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine in May 2019. His expertise in finance, economics, and international relations continues to be valued in Ukraine's policy-making circles.
