Biography of Alexander Soros
Alexander Soros is an American philanthropist and the son of hedge fund manager and philanthropist George Soros and his wife, Susan Weber Soros. He graduated from New York University in 2009 and while pursuing his doctoral degree at the University of California in 2010, Soros became the most active sponsor of political campaigns among all students in the country.
Early Philanthropy
Alexander Soros made his first significant charitable contribution to the Jewish Funds for Justice. According to the Wall Street Journal, he focuses his philanthropic activities primarily on "progressive causes that lack broad support." Currently, Soros actively collaborates with several progressive organizations, including Global Witness, Open Society Foundations, and Bend the Arc.
Political Campaigns
Soros continues to sponsor political campaigns. In March 2012, he allocated $200,000 to the Jewish Council for Education and Research, an organization that actively supported Barack Obama. In the same year, Soros established the Alexander Soros Foundation, which fights for social justice and human rights. The foundation supports Bend the Arc, Make the Road New York, and other organizations.
Awards and Research
Together with the Ford Foundation and Open Society Foundations, the Alexander Soros Foundation conducted the first research in the country on the situation of local workers in the job market. On July 7, 2012, the foundation held its first award ceremony, honoring Silas Siakor for his achievements in the field of environmentalism and human rights.
