Biography of Alexander Khatskevich
Alexander Khatskevich is a Belarusian football coach and former player. He was born on June 19, 1973, in Minsk, Belarus.
Early Career
Khatskevich began his football career as a midfielder and was trained at the youth sports school "Dinamo" in Minsk. His first coach was Mikhail Bratchenya. In 1990, he was admitted to the reserve team of "Dinamo" Minsk, where he scored one goal in two years. From 1992, Khatskevich played for the main squad of "Dinamo" Minsk, where he remained until 1996 and then from 2005 to 2007. During this time, he played 106 games and scored 20 goals.
Khatskevich also played for other clubs during his career, including "Dinamo" Kiev from 1996 to 2003, where he played 135 games and scored 26 goals. He also had a brief stint with "Tianjin Teda" in China in 2004 and "Ventspils" in Latvia in 2005.
In addition to his club career, Khatskevich represented the Belarus national team from 1993 to 2005, playing 38 games and scoring 4 goals. However, his time with the national team was not without controversy. In 2001, after a loss to Ukraine, Khatskevich was accused by the Belarusian coach Eduard Malofeev of inappropriate behavior and match-fixing, which led to speculation about his departure from the national team.
Coaching Career
Khatskevich started his coaching career at "Dinamo" Minsk in 2007, immediately after being released by the club as a player. He took on the role of player-coach and focused on developing young players from the club's academy. However, the team's performance suffered, and they finished in ninth place in the championship, their worst result in history. Khatskevich left his position as head coach at the end of the 2007 season.
In early 2008, Khatskevich was appointed as the head coach of the Belarusian youth national team by the Belarusian Football Federation. Later that year, he became the head coach of "Vitebsk" and led the team to a fifth-place finish in the championship. However, due to financial problems, Khatskevich left the club in July 2009.
From February 2010 to 2011, Khatskevich served as an assistant coach for the Ukrainian national team. He then took charge of the youth team of "Dinamo" Kiev from 2010 to 2014.
On December 4, 2014, Khatskevich was appointed as the head coach of the Belarus national team. However, he was dismissed on December 6, 2016, after four matches in the FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament, in which the team drew with France, lost to the Netherlands and Bulgaria, and shared points with Luxembourg.
On June 2, 2017, Khatskevich was announced as the head coach of "Dinamo" Kiev. During his tenure, the team finished as runners-up in the Ukrainian Premier League twice. However, on August 14, 2019, Khatskevich and his entire coaching staff were dismissed after failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the third consecutive year.
On December 20, 2019, Khatskevich took the helm of "Rotor" in Volgograd. Under his leadership, the team finished in first place in the 2019/20 FNL Championship, earning them promotion to the Russian Premier League for the first time in 16 years. However, on March 19, 2021, Khatskevich left his position as head coach of "Rotor".
