Early Life and Education
Alexander Semenovich Kapto was born on April 14, 1933, in Velyka Tarasivka, Ukraine. He graduated from Dnipropetrovsk University in 1957.
Academic and Political Career
Kapto pursued a distinguished academic career, specializing in sociology, political science, and diplomacy. He obtained a PhD in philosophy in 1967 and a Doctorate in philosophy in 1985. He currently holds the position of Director of the UNESCO International Chair of the Institute of Social and Political Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Kapto also had an extensive political career. He served as Secretary of the Dnipropetrovsk City Committee, October District Committee, and Oblast Committee of the Komsomol. Later, he held various leadership positions within the Communist Party of Ukraine, including Secretary of the Kiev City Committee, Secretary of the Kiev Oblast Committee, and Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine. He was also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Ukraine and twice a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
Diplomatic Service
Kapto served as Ambassador of the USSR to Cuba from 1986 to 1988. He was the last Ambassador of the USSR and the first Ambassador of the Russian Federation to North Korea. He holds the highest diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Journalistic Career
Kapto began his journalistic career as a freelance correspondent. He rose through the ranks to become the Editor-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Republican Youth Newspaper. He is a member of the Union of Journalists.
