Early Life and Education

Linda Susan Gottfredson (née Howarth) was born on June 24, 1947, in San Francisco, California. She earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1969. After graduating, she joined the Peace Corps and worked in Malaysia until 1972. Gottfredson went on to obtain a Master of Arts in sociology from Johns Hopkins University in 1977.

Career

Gottfredson is an American sociologist and professor of educational psychology at the University of Delaware. Her controversial views on race and intelligence have drawn significant criticism. She has received funding from the Pioneer Fund, an organization accused of supporting racism, white supremacy, and eugenics.

Marriage and Family

Gottfredson married Harry Don Gottfredson on April 19, 1967. He is the son of the renowned criminologist Don Martin Gottfredson. The couple divorced in 1979.

Controversy

Gottfredson has been accused of opposing efforts to address racial inequality in the workplace and society by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Her work has fueled debates on the role of race and genetics in human intelligence.
