Early Life and Education

Aleksander Parczewski, a renowned Polish architect and engineer, was born in Vilnius. He pursued his architectural studies at the Riga Polytechnic Institute (1904-1910) and completed his education at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts (1906).

Architectural Career

Colony on the Rossa

In 1911, Parczewski designed the buildings for the Colony on the Rossa, a residential project.

Orphanage

He also worked on the design for a children's orphanage during the same period.

"House with Lions"

Parczewski's most notable work is the "House with Lions" (1911), a neoclassical building with Renaissance influences, located on Vilniaus Street. The two-story structure features arched windows and a central pediment adorned with three sculptures depicting winged lions.

Private Architectural Office

From 1912 to 1914, Parczewski collaborated with Wacław Michniewicz to establish "Architekt," a private architectural firm. The office was initially housed in the "House with Lions" and later moved to Lukiskės.

World War II and Restoration

During World War II, the "House with Lions" was destroyed but was subsequently restored. It now houses the "Knowledge" Society, a pharmacy, and a tourist information center.

Collaboration with Wacław Michniewicz

Together with Michniewicz, Parczewski designed the Theater on Pogulanka (1912-1913), which is still in use today.
