Early Life and Education

Oleksandr Petyk was born on November 27, 1963, in Kyiv, Ukraine. He earned a degree in economics from Syktyvkar University in 1991, followed by degrees in philosophy (1992) and law (2002) from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 1997, he graduated from the Academy of State Administration under the President of Ukraine, earning a Master's degree in public administration.

Career in Non-Profit and Government

Petyk began his career working as a painter at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1982. From 1985 to 1990, he worked in the oil and gas industry in the Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, serving as a miner, operator, and hoisting machine operator. During this time, he was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Council of the Komi ASSR.

In the early 1990s, Petyk returned to Ukraine to pursue a career in government and social work. He held various positions, including:

Deputy to the Supreme Council of the RSFSR (1990-1992)

Head of the Regional Information and Commercial Agency in Sosnogorsk, Komi Republic (1992-1993)

Acting Head of the Research Department at the Kyiv Socio-Economic Research Institute (1995-1996)

Chief Editor of the "Probuzhdeniye" newspaper (1995-1996)

Chief Editor of the "Kyiv Shevchenkivskyi" newspaper (1997-1998)
Political Career

Petyk's entry into politics began in 1998 when he became a chief consultant for the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's Committee on Legal Reform. He then served as an advisor to the Kyiv City Mayor (2001-2003), and later as head of the Kyiv City State Administration's Main Department for Internal Policy (2003-2006).

After a brief stint as a leading sociologist at the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2007), Petyk returned to politics as an advisor to People's Deputy of Ukraine Svyatoslav Khanenko (2007-2014).

Head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration

In March 2014, following the Euromaidan protests, Petyk was appointed as the head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration by acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov. This appointment was part of a coalition agreement between the Svoboda party and other opposition parties, which had formed a transitional government.

During his tenure, Petyk faced criticism for his lack of personnel changes but was commended for his honest conduct of the presidential campaign and his support for local volunteers participating in the anti-terrorist operation in Eastern Ukraine.

Military Service and Later Career

In September 2014, Petyk resigned from his position and joined the 24th Separate Assault Battalion ("Aidar") as an assistant to the commander for legal affairs. He also ran as an independent candidate for the Verkhovna Rada in the October 2014 parliamentary elections, placing fifth in his district with 6.89% of the vote.
