Biography of Alexander Skarsgård
Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård was born on August 25, 1976, in Stockholm, Sweden. He is the son of doctor My Günther and Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård, and the brother of actor Gustaf Skarsgård.
Early Career
Skarsgård made his film debut in 1984 in Allan Edwall's drama "Oke and His World." He appeared in several Swedish television series and films before serving in the Swedish Marine Corps.
Hollywood Breakthrough
In 2001, Skarsgård made his Hollywood debut in Ben Stiller's third directorial film, "Zoolander." He played the role of the idiotic male model Meekus, the neighbor of Stiller's character. Skarsgård was nominated for the Swedish film award "Guldbagge" in 2003 for his supporting role in the film "The Dog Trick."
Rise to Fame
From 2005 onwards, Skarsgård appeared in the miniseries "Revelations" as Gunnar Eklind and portrayed Jergen Feller in Colin Teague's military action film "The Last Drop." He also starred in several international productions. Skarsgård gained critical acclaim for his role as Sergeant Brad "Iceman" Colbert in the American miniseries "Generation Kill" in 2007, alongside James Ransone and Lee Tergesen.
True Blood and Beyond
Skarsgård became a member of the original ensemble cast of the HBO drama series "True Blood." He portrayed the charming thousand-year-old vampire sheriff Eric Northman, who owned his own bar called "Fangtasia." The series premiered in 2008, and Skarsgård continued to appear in subsequent seasons.
Recent Projects
In 2009, Skarsgård voiced the character Stefan in the animated film "Metropia" and starred in David L. Williams' British comedy-drama "Beyond the Pole." One of his recent projects is the thriller film "Straw Dogs," a remake of the 1971 film, which was released in 2011. He also appeared in the science fiction drama "Melancholia" in the same year, alongside Kirsten Dunst and Kiefer Sutherland.
