Alexander IV of Macedon
Alexander IV was a Macedonian king who reigned from 295 BC. He was the third and youngest son of Cassander and Thessalonica, the half-sister of Alexander the Great.
Reign
Alexander initially ruled jointly with his brother Antipater. However, when Antipater had their mother murdered and banished Alexander from Macedonia, the latter sought aid from Pyrrhus and Demetrius Poliorcetes to restore his throne. In return for their assistance, Alexander promised them territories on the Macedonian coast, as well as the provinces of Ambracia, Acarnania, and Amphilochia. Soon after, a large part of Macedonia came under Alexander's control.
Conflict with Demetrius
After Pyrrhus left Macedonia, Alexander refused Demetrius' continued assistance. Tensions arose between the two Macedonians, with both plotting the other's demise. When Poliorcetes prepared to depart, Alexander volunteered to accompany him to Thessaly. At Larisa, he attended a dinner hosted by Demetrius, where he and his companions were killed.
